Þakgil, or Thakgil is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, still hidden from huge tourist crowds. Road 214 to Thakgil is typically open since June until September/October, when there's not an old snow anymore, and at the same time no new snow yet. The same applies for hiking trails in Thakgil. They become impassable if there's still heavy snow on them (typically October to May/June). It's technically possible to drive a 2wd car in here, but the road is very bumpy and could easily be classified as an F-road.
