Susie had always known that life felt kinder with Charlie beside her. Charlie, her Cavalier Charles with velvet ears and the most thoughtful eyes, walked as though the world were something precious to be noticed rather than hurried through. Wherever Susie went, he went too, his small paws keeping time with her heart. They loved their walks. Slow ones. The kind where nothing much happened except the quiet joy of being together. Along familiar paths and winding streets, Charlie would pause to sniff the air while Susie smiled down at him, already knowing he was perfectly content. The beach was their favorite place of all. At night especially. Susie would sit while the ocean breathed softly nearby, and Charlie would settle close, warm and watchful. They both loved the moon. Its silver glow seemed to belong to them alone, casting gentle light across the water as if whispering secrets meant only for listening souls. Sometimes, Susie would speak her dreams out loud, and Charlie would listen, as he always did. One day, she would say, we will walk the streets of Paris. We will stroll past glowing windows and linger where beautiful things rest behind glass. We will go nowhere in a hurry. We will simply wander. Charlie would lift his head then, tail giving a quiet wag, as though he understood perfectly. Perhaps he did. For Susie and Charlie shared a way of seeing the world. One that believed the sweetest moments were not grand, but gentle. Not loud, but lasting. And whether beneath moonlight by the sea or in a dream of Paris streets yet to come, they walked together, just as they always would.
