Join us for our biggest project yet! I've traded in my fully functional VW California Ocean campervan for a blank canvas workhorse T6.1 LWB Sportline T32 Transporter. We're ripping up the rulebook on camper conversions, transforming this empty shell into a one-of-a-kind daily driver that's perfect for daily use (including as a mobile office!) and weekend escapes. We're focused on creating a premium, comfortable space, with a unique twist on layout. In this episode, we swap out the chunky all terrain tyres that have been rubbing the wheel arch linings for some tyres of the right size - I've opted for some Kumhos as something decent but not ridiculously expensive as I'm not sure whether I'll also be lowering the van (like I did on my VW California Ocean with Bilstein B14 Komfort Lows). We also take the first steps towards making this feel like a bona fide campervan - fitting a vinyl floor, a remnant we'd picked up from Kidderminster Carpets. Controversially, I opt to keep the existing ply floor rather than take it up and shove as much sound deadening and insulation as I can muster underneath (although don't worry, we will see some Dodomat as the build progresses 😉). It's in good nick and clearly the van hasn't been used for anything dirty like plastering. And I replace the factory cab mats with a Brandrup carpet mat. A bit of an extravagance but my California came with one of these and it took a hell of a beating but remained tough and relatively dirt free, so a good investment for someone who only rarely vacuums out the cab! Follow along as we tackle everything from furniture to electrics (including solar for offgrid use), plumbing and of course the stylish - and unusual - interior design that makes it feel like home. If you're planning your own VW Transporter conversion or just love watching a van build come to life, hit subscribe to follow our journey! New episodes every Sunday!
