This is by far one of the most beautiful islands in Korea. Its called Somaemuldo and it's accessible by ferry from many ports. I chose to leave from the Tongyeong Ferry Terminal in the port city of Tongyeong-si, a city in the Gyeongsangnam-do province. Tongyeong is situated in the southern tip of Goseong peninsula and its three sides are surrounded by the sea. It consists of 41 inhabited and 110 uninhabited islands, Somamaemuldo being one of them. Tongyeong Port, the east gate of Hallyeo Marine National Park, is referred to as the most beautiful port in South Korea as well as having a rich naval history. The island of Somaemuldo is connected by land to Deungdaesum island (where the lighthouse is) only some of the time since the tide fluctuates, so plan your trip accordingly. By ferry, your island destination is called Somaemuldo, 소매물도, which is the larger island adjacent to Deungdaesum. It is a beautiful place to visit but the ferry does take 2 hours to get there so be prepared for an early start. Once on Somaemuldo island you will have the chance to hike the perimeter of the island where you will then have the chance to cross over and hike to the lighthouse on Deungdaesum. Many people go directly to the lighthouse but I recommend taking in, all that the two islands have to offer. I think once visited, you will be inspired to see the other islands the Tongyeong area has to offer. You will not be disappointed! WARNING: THERE ARE TWO ISLAND WITH SIMILAR NAMES. THERE IS: SOMAEMULDO AND: MAEMULDO To get to where the lighthouse is you need to take the ferry to SOMAEMULDO, otherwise you won't be on the right island!!
