Full of history, this ring displays the Talbot, an extinct hunting dog known for its courage, vigilance, and loyalty. The Talbot was the badge of the medieval Earls of Shrewsbury. Legend has it that the famed Chateau Talbot, producer of French wine, was named for the Englishman John Talbot, the first Earl of Shrewsbury (1384/90-1453). A daring and aggressive soldier, sometimes known as the English "Achilles," John Talbot served as an English military commander during the Hundred Years' War between France and England. He was defeated and killed at a battle near Bordeaux. A pewter version of the badge is in the collection of the Museum of London.
