Fit and finish is very nice. I know we talk about products made in china being of inferior quality, but this mandolin is really quite nice. The level of detail in the metal engravings is intricate, and the wood finish is flawless. After spending some time actually looking for imperfections, I can say that I found none. It has the look and feel of a much more expensive instrument for sure. I am impressed with all the stuff you receive above and beyond the instrument itself. You also receive 3 strumming picks, an extra set of strings, an electronic tuning device (with brief instruction sheet), a shoulder strap, a black instrument case (soft shell), an electronic microphone plug in (for sticking to the instrument and plugging into an amplifier) and a “getting started” guide for learning the chords etc. The sound quality from this mandolin is really nice. I (nor anyone in my immediate family) is able to play it properly, but my son brought it with him to my parent’s place, and my father was able to make it really play! He tuned it a bit, and then just started playing (he is an old guitar player from way back). It has a really nice, deep quality sound to it. I am hoping that my oldest son will continue to practice and eventually be able to play – just like grandpa.
