This how-to video covers operations for Apogee Instruments chlorophyll meter. In the video, Schuyler Smith, of Apogee Instruments, explains how to take measurements using the chlorophyll meter in SPAD, CCI, and µmol of chlorophyll per square meter of plant leaf area units; and how to download measurement data onto your computer. VIDEO TOPICS -How to take measurement with the MC-100 -How to save samples -How to read different units (CCI, SPAD, and µmol of chlorophyll per square meter of plant leaf area) -How to change meter to read for different species -How to get saved data off of meter onto computer -GPS module capable as add-on feature VIDEO CONTENT 00:53 First we hit the power button and we are going to hear a beep that is how we know the chlorophyll meter is on. 01:08 HOW TO SET THE TIME AND DATE STAMP To change the time a date stamp, click system then go to setup. This is going to tell us the format our time and date are in and we can edit them. Note the meter uses a 24-hr clock. To get out of this setting, hit exit. 01:38 FILE SETUP To setup the files, go to run then setup. The first thing that comes up is save data and data file. We will edit this option by clicking edit and then yes when it is highlighted. If we want to rename the file we will click the right arrow key and file name manager will show. Here we can edit the file name, use a default name, or use the date as the name. 03:03 TAKING MEASUREMENTS There are three different test measurements they are multi-point average, one-point no averaging, and multi-point standard deviation. One-point no averaging takes a new measurement every time you make a measurement and does not do any averaging for you, so the average number or points and recorded point data on the screen do not apply. Multi-point standard deviation takes your standard deviation as an average of 10 to 30 readings, so you have to change the number of point to between 10 and 30. Multi-point averaging allows you to record either only your standard deviations or every measurement you make along with the standard deviations. Note that when you have an outlier in multi-point averaging the meter throws out the reading and will ask you to make a new measurement. 05:28 DATA ECHO OUTPUT The data echo output refers to the RS-232 port on the bottom of the sensor that you can send data through. For more information, contact tech support. 05:54 GPS DATA LOGGING You can plug a GPS module into the RS-232 port to record GPS data with your measurements. More information at https://www.apogeeinstruments.com/con... 06:15 CHANGE MEASUREMENT UNITS The default unit for the MC-100 is CCI. SPAD and µmol of chlorophyll per square meter of plant leaf area units are custom measurements. µmol of chlorophyll per square meter of plant leaf area can be used by selecting “generic” in the chlorophyll table or by selecting you plant species. 07:34 TAKE MEASUREMENT Once the meter is set up, click measure to begin taking measurements. 07:37 CLEAR SAMPLE CHAMBER Before making measurements you will be asked to clear sample area. To do this, hold down the arm until you hear a beep. 07:50-11:40 MEASUREMENT EXAMPLE USING SPAD, CCI, and CHLOROPHYLL UNITS 11:40 GETTING DATA ON COMPUTER To get the data off of the meter and onto your computer, take the USB cable that is included with the MC-100 and plug it into the USB port on the meter and your computer and then click on data on the meter. We can now pull up the device on our computer similar to a flash drive. Once we select the meter we can find our file saved in a CSV format. We can now open this file using Excel to get a better analysis of our data.
