#assault #abuse #npd #aspd #domesticviolence In May of 2022 I was physically assaulted, and as a result of the assault, my wrist was broken. Very shortly after the incident took place, I went to Urgent Care and immediately after my visit, had x-rays taken of my injured wrist. However, I was misdiagnosed, as unbeknownst to me, broken bones in the early stages sometimes are. After months of delayed healing as evidenced by chronic pain, reduced function, decreased strength, range of motion and flexibility, I went to my primary care physician and requested another set of x-rays. It was at that time, when the results returned, that she confirmed to me that my wrist had been broken, as evidenced by new bone growth. While the bone structure was mostly healed by that time, we both agreed that physical therapy could help me recover my strength and flexibility, and address the pain. The physical therapy office I was referred to is amazing and I'm so grateful to be treated by such caring professionals. Physical abuse and violence is on the rise and is definitely receiving more attention since COVID, as the stay at home orders revealed just how prominent domestic violence is. Along these same lines, personality disorders have also garnered much attention recently, not ironically since they tend to go hand in hand. Truly this is an epidemic of global proportions which really is in dire need of solutions. Mental health and criminal behavior is generational containing both a social element, and often a genetic component. Why are we not taught about these things in school? This horrific experience has led me down a path of inquisition. I have spent many long hours researching personality disorders and the propensity for violence directed at other living beings. I've been consuming information in the form of books, blogs, research papers, documentaries, and YouTube content specific to the topic. What I have discovered has surely taken away some of my innocence. There are real and true predators walking among us. People who, for many reasons, don't feel or behave as the majority of the population. The ways in which they perceive and relate to the world are vastly different, and in many cases cannot be changed with any type of therapy. This is a sad realization leaving so many victims with limited ways to cope. And leaving the afflicted lost and alone to deal with their own form of torment - by perpetuating the infinite loops of chaos and destruction. It is, however important to find ways to not only cope, but to heal. Coping mechanisms are temporary, but when they take the place of true healing, that is how personality disorders are formed. For instance, expert Richard Grannon describes Narcissistic Personality Disorder as a "Maladaptive Disorder." Meaning, when trauma occurred (likely in childhood), the subject adopted coping mechanisms as a way of avoiding dealing with the personal effects of the trauma. The coping mechanisms become embedded in the personality, yet the traumatic effects on the person are never addressed or resolved. The subject then remains stuck in destructive loops of inappropriate behavior. After a lifetime of this, it is nearly impossible to reverse, and especially if it is accompanied by physiological impairment, which, studies have shown can be congenital, but can also occur as a result of prolonged traumatic stress and anxiety. I am hopeful that somehow, this may change one day. I think establishing identifiable markers is a great start, but there seems to be much disagreement within the psychological community, as well as slowed, and lack of research. I think the best thing lay people and victims can do is to take great care of themselves by being safe, creating a good social network of supportive people, becoming educated and informed on the topics, and getting the professional help they need to heal and recover from the damage to the self they have endured, including physical, mental and emotional. I hope my four tips may be helpful, but to put things in perspective, they are just a fragment of what is required for true healing and a sense of safety and wellbeing. I must add that, when I say in the video to "Act Accordingly," please know that it may not be safe to immediately leave an abusive relationship as this is the most dangerous time for a victim or target of predatory behavior. Because the most prominent M.O. of many abusive personality types is the acquisition of Power, Control and Dominance, (over you, the target), it's abrupt removal can lead to uncontrollable rage (emotional dysregulation). So please seek help, and "Plan Accordingly" first. Share this video with someone who could benefit from the information provided • Physical Assault Changes You: 4 Tips for S...
