Boats! #1: Kul Tiras was founded over one thousand years ago, with its initial economy thriving on fishing and exports. Over the years, the island nation became a trading hub as it built large fleets of merchant vessels in search of exotic goods to trade. Unlike most other human nations at the time, Kul Tiras was not a kingdom in the proper sense of the word, and was instead ruled by a Lord Admiral, who was a noble and not a member of royalty. #2: In the original game, Kul Tiras left the Alliance after the Second War, in objection to King Terenas's decision to hold the orcs in intermnent camps, and was raided and sacked by Ner'zhul Horde in Beyond the Dark Portal, which led to the island nation rejoining the Alliance. This was later retconned to part of Kul Tiras's fleet being burned down by black dragons, after the ships came to the aid of Menethil Harbor, which was being infiltrated by the orcs. In addition, in the original Tides of Darkness game, it was Kul Tiras who found out about Alterac's betrayal of the Alliance after an engagement with the Horde fleet in Darrowmere Lake. In the later novelisation, the betrayal was discovered by King Thoras Trollbane of Stromgarde, although Kul Tiras also discovered Alterac sailors among the Horde fleet separately. #3: A Kul Tiras base existed on the Darkspear Isles, a small archipelago near the Malestrom, which was also inhabited by the Darkspear Tribe. The base was destroyed by Thrall's New Horde as it made its way to Kalimdor during the Third War, and the survivors were captured and sacrificed by the murloc minions of the naga sea witch Zar'jira. #4: During the Third War, Jaina Proudmoore, the daughter of Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, was convinced by Medivh to sail west to Kalimdor with refugees from Lordaeron. To that end, she comandeered the Kul Tiras fleet and immediately set sail, leaving her father uninformed in her haste. Her expedition, aside from refugees, also comprised many of Kul Tiras's finest soldiers, who continued to serve her as she founded the nation of Theramore. #5: Following the Second War, the wizards of Kul Tiras claimed the isle of Tol Barad, which had previously belonged to Stromgarde before being ravaged by the Horde during the war. After rebuilding the citadel, the mages turned it into a magical prison, similar to the Violet Hold in Dalaran, and actually even the Kirin Tor imprisoned some powerful demons here. The local population formed the Baradin's Wardens, charged with serving the mages in guarding the prison. #6: Following the Third War, Admiral Proudmoore also set sail for Kalimdor in search of his daughter, Jaina. He eventually discovered her, along with the orcish nation of Durotar, which he proceeded to invade after occupying Theramore. After some initial success, where he forced the trolls to evacuate the Echo Isles, his forces were eventually driven off thanks to the efforts of Rexxar. Admiral Proudmoore then made his final stand in Theramore and died in front of his daughter, who subsequently signed a non-aggresion pact with Thrall. #7: After Admiral Proudmoore died, the leadership of his forces in Kalimdor fell to Lieutenant Benedict, who tried to continue the campaign by occupying Tiragarde Keep in Durotar. Another fleet, led by Lieutenant Alverold, was previously ordered to explore the coasts of Kalimdor and return to assist the Admiral. To this day, Lieutenant Alverold's fleet has not returned, while Tiragarde Keep was flooded by the Cataclysm, with all of the Kul Tiras marines drowning.
