The year is 1996, and Capcom just released a new game. As was common for Capcom games at the time, the cover would display a small bar across the bottom bearing the genre, but this time something was different; a combination of words that had never been used before to describe a video game, but everyone understood what it meant. It said "Survival Horror". Capcom were so proud of the new genre label they had created, that it would also be displayed in the game itself. When the game started, the loading screen read: "Enter the survival horror." You play as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine members of the Special Tactical And Rescue Service (or S.T.A.R.S.) Alpha Team, as an investigation into the disappearance of Bravo Team drags them to the Arklay Mountains on the outskirts of Raccoon City. After being attacked by ravenous dogs, resulting in the death of Joseph Frost, the remaining members of Alpha Team: Chris, Jill, Wesker and Barry escape to a mansion in a clearing in the woods.
