Short film of baby Western Lowland Gorilla Afia and her adoptive mother Romina, at Bristol Zoo Gardens 30.3.17. Romina sadly passed in 2018 at the age of 38. She is sadly missed. Afia was 3 recently and is now cared for by all the females in the group, and by Jock the Silverback. He is a very caring father and very tender with her. She also has a constant playmate in Ayana, who will soon be 2 years old. Afia (meaning “born on a Friday” in Ghanaian) was born by caesarean section from mum Kera on 12 February 2016. Because Kera was unwell after she had come round from the caesarean, the decision was made to hand-rear Afia and reintroduce her to the group at a later date.
