Stan Levey (1926–2005) was an American jazz drummer renowned as one of the earliest and most influential drummers in bebop. Born in Philadelphia, Levey began playing drums professionally in his teens and quickly gained recognition for his crisp, high-energy playing. By age 16, he was performing with Dizzy Gillespie, making him one of the few white musicians deeply immersed in the bebop movement during its formative years. Levey worked with a veritable who's who of jazz legends, including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Stan Getz. He was a key member of Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars, helping to shape the West Coast jazz sound in the 1950s.
