How To Recap 1500uf NON POLAR Capacitors on the Seeburg Jukebox SHP3 Amplifier. This video shows that you need to examine capacitors with an ESR Meter AND your eyes. I made a verbal ERROR in the video. You solder the 2 capacitors in SERIES not parallel. I soldered them in series but I said parallel in the video - no clue why. In this instance the Atlas ESR60 Capacitance Meter indicates that both of these old Non Polar 1500uf 35v EL CAPO electrolytic capacitors have good capacitance and low ESR which means they do not need replacing. However looking at the end of the capacitors shows both of them are actively leaking down on to the SHP Amp Chassis. Since these are critical capacitors that protect the expensive amp transformers it is imperative to replace bad capacitors. The BIG problem is that NOBODY sells 1500uf 35v NON POLAR capacitors anymore. Electrolytic Capacitors this large are all polarized with a plus and a minus lead. This SHP3 AMP needs a Non Polar Cap. You have to make one new NP cap by soldering two capacitors in SERIES with the negative leads soldered together thus making it non polar. Remember when soldering two IDENTICAL capacitors in SERIES you divide the UF in half and double the voltage. So I use two 3300uf 35v lytic caps soldered - / - which makes a NP 1650uf 70v capacitor. Think you can just "get by" with using a standard +/- capacitor? According to Tony Millers SHP Amp book you cannot. He warns several times about using the correct NP caps.
