Which honestly hurt me a little. But what I did find was a video explaining how each US state got its name, and that turned out to be just as interesting. I had no idea how many state names come from Indigenous languages, how many were influenced by Spanish explorers, or how some names are still kind of a mystery. Some of these origins make total sense, others feel a bit questionable, and some of them genuinely surprised me. I really enjoy videos like this because they turn into a mix of history, language, culture, and random “wait… WHAT?” moments. Also, imagining alternative names for some states feels illegal at this point — I genuinely cannot picture them being called anything else.
