In flight video of the radio control Great Planes Escapade 40. Running with an OS Engines Max 46AXII with Omega 15% nitro fuel, Futaba 6J transmitter and Futaba S3004 servos. Great sport radio control plane. Flying at the local rc air field. In this rc plane flight video I’m using a gopro sports cam mounted looking forward. I flew this plane for several years and one day the rudder came off in flight and the rc plane crashed and was completely destroyed. I was able to salvage the engine which had only carburetor damage. In upcoming videos I will be building a Balsa USS Smoothie 40 class rc plane kit and will use the os max .46 from the Escapade. In this flight video we can see how nice the Escapade 40 flew. I lost this plane after flying it for about 3 years. I believe it was a failure or the rudder, which broke off during a flight. I believe this was a design flaw of Great Planes Escapade 40 Sport. I was coming out of a hammer stall and I saw the tail section break off. The plane dove straight down from over 100 feet in the air. The rc plane crashed through some trees and hit the ground and exploded into bits. Luckily the OS Engine survived the crash with only a damaged carburetor. I replaced this plane with the Great Planes Revolver 60, which I soon learned had a poorly designed weak landing gear mount which broke off during landings. I had to replace and reinforce the landing gear (see my repair videos) . I am not sure I can recommend Great Planes ARFs. If you like to build, fly, repair radio control planes I hope you will enjoy my rc plane build log, rc plane flight videos, rc plane how to videos. I have been building, flying, crashing, modifying, and repairing radio control planes for many years and enjoy sharing what I do with the radio control plane community. I fly with Futaba radio equipment, OS Max engines and Saito engines and typically run Morgan Omega and Powermaster glow fuels. I fly ARF rc planes, but I also really like to build rc plane kits.
