Sandwip, an island which is located along the southeastern coast of Bangladesh in the Chittagong district. Along with the island of Air Char, it is a part of the Sandwip Upazila. Its area is about 762.4 square kilometres. Approximately 700,000 to 800,000 people live here in peace. To visit there, one has to land on Kumira Stimer Ghaat. And through waterway by stimer they can reach sandwip. Sandwip is an excellent place to visit. There is a traditional dry lake to the south of the island. There are also numerous masjids, schools, madrasas. There are also various traditional places to visit on the island. The place is surrounded by beautiful scenery and coconut trees everywhere. In addition to its salt industry, Sandwip also became known for its shipbuilding at the time. Eventually, the Portuguese held the island in conjunction with the Arakanese and Muslim rulers. Even today some of the architecture on the island reflects the island's history as a 17th-century pirate stronghold.
