In this video, I’m making tomato soap using the cold process method. I dry and grind fresh tomatoes, infusing them in oil for a rich, natural base. To add a vibrant color, I also infuse annatto seeds in the oil. This unique recipe combines fresh ingredients and natural colors, resulting in a beautifully crafted soap. RECIPE: Oils and Butters 🫘 46 g castor oil 🥥 170 g coconut oil 🧈 154 g cocoa butter 🫒 320 g tomato and annatto infused olive oil Lye Solution: ⚗️ 94.7 g sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) 💧 150 g tomato juice Important Note: Always handle sodium hydroxide with extreme care. Wear protective gear, including gloves, goggles, and long-sleeved clothing. Work in a well-ventilated area and follow all safety guidelines. Additives: 🧂 10 g sodium citrate 💧 10 tsp sodium lactate Sodium citrate is a salt derived from citric acid. Sodium citrate acts as a chelating agent, meaning it binds with metal ions in water, which helps prevent soap scum from forming. By using sodium citrate, I can ensure that the soap performs well in both soft and hard water. Note: During the curing process, white crystalline spots may appear on the surface of the soap due to the sodium citrate in the recipe. This is normal, non-harmful, and can be easily rinsed off.
