The Croatian Armoured Train - Hrvatski Oklopni Vlak

In the beginning stages of the Croatian War of Independence, weapons were hard to acquire because of the arms embargo set on Croatia (thanks for that one world community...) and the Serbs hostile taking control of the Yugoslav Army. In those days there were many examples of civilian tech converted for military use, this is one of those examples. Croatian national railway Hrvatske Željeznice and the Brodosplit Shipyard in Split converted two wagons and a diesel locomotive into an armoured train in 1991 from a EMD G26 diesel-electric locomotive and UIC Class G railway wagon with no blueprints since it was a hastily made project. The armour is formed from 6 to 8 mm steel outer and inner plates encasing 30 to 50 mm of concrete. There are armoured turrets for 12.7 mm machine guns on the roof of the wagons. In the end it saw no combat. It's current location is in the Split railway yard in a part of Split known as Kopilica.
