FOREST PARK, Ohio (Brad Underwood) -- This fall, Neusole Glassworks is bringing high school students into the studio in hopes of giving them a taste of the trade and maybe even sparking a future in glass blowing. Its a program less than 10 studios in the country offer for students. The program is about four months long and for the first month one day a week after school the students learn how to make a variety of glass items. After a month, the days of exposure increase. Getting these kids in the studio is the result of years of work by Neusole Glassworks Executive Director Debbie Bradley. "Kids need that activity to get their inner voice and glass blowing is challenging, hot and they have to learn how to communicate to make to work," said Bradley. For now six students from Winton Woods High School come in each Wednesday and learn from four instructors, Josh Katz is one of them. "I think the kids are great, they seem to love it. Not too many jobs you can play with fire, break stuff and be creative at the same time, said Katz. This Saturday the studio and gallery were full of donors celebrating one year in their new space in Forest Park but also to raise money to fund the program. But this is just the beginning for Bradley, she wants to expand and start helping youth on probation by bringing them and giving them a chance to show some creativity. "What we are trying to do is set a program with the juvenile offenders being released on probation to come over here. We are working with butler and Hamilton county courts and they'll come over here and do the same thing." For more on Neusole Glassworks and the program you can go here.
