As we went on stage in one of the centers of ancient Jewish history, the city of Seville, we felt as if we are continuing a sequence that was abruptly stopped five hundred years ago, at the expulsion of the Jews from Spain. And though we cannot be sure as to how exactly did Jewish music sounded like at the time when the Rambam lived in Cordoba, In our fusing of Jewish Moroccan Andalusian culture, we are trying to continue the lines from the ancient kingdom of Al-Andalus to our days. Music venues like this one in Seville, Fundación Tres Culturas, give place to varied music groups to explore connections between Judaism, Islam, and christianity, and how their connection gave birth to a variety of styles and musics. The Jewish songs that we played vary from Moroccan Sephardic music to Jewish songs from Morocco in Arabic and Hebrew, as well as our own new music that continue these traditions. World music for us is a synonym to Jewish music As you can find many Jewish communities all over the world like Ethiopia, India, Russia, Morocco, United States, France, Spain and more. The Jewish calendar is full of distinctive songs for each of the days of the holiday during the Hebrew year. So, Judaism has many Jewish traditions and each one of them has its own characteristics, styles, geography, instruments, Language and more. Obviously, there are Folk songs that also can be called secular Jewish songs like lullabies, wedding songs, love songs, etc. For example, the song ‘Ma Tovu Tzevia’ is a wedding song of Moroccan Jewish tradition. About Us: Duo Andalus is a duo comprised of the artists Lala Tamar and Ofer Ronen. Together we play music from Morocco and Spain, and investigate the new connection that can be created from these traditions. We play on guitar, and guimbri, (an ancient Moroccan instrument), and percussion. Lala Tamar is the lead singer, and Ofer Ronen joins in voices. Our music weaves a voyage between centuries and countries from the old Al Andalus kingdom where Jews, Christians, and Muslims lived and created together, to nowadays music scene, combining indie ambient with these centuries old musics. This creates our new sound spread around the world. Voice, percussion, guimbri: Lala Tamar Guitar, voice: Ofer Ronen Percussion: Israel Katomba You are more than welcome to Subscribe to our channel in to be in touch with. please leave your comment here if you have any questions or something else to share with us. :-)
