Percussion rhythm draws influence from the performance of Barongsai / Lion Dance or Sar Ping commonly held in Pantura regions. In classic Tarling semantics, the musicians are usually bound to give an opening performance which are lovingly referred to as “Tatalu”. “I was fortunate enough to come across @monicahapsari @Lair ’s music, and immediately thought I wanted to work with them. After choosing a song and trying some ideas that did not reflect the essence of the music, I decided to play with the organic, urban, human side of what in West Java culture called Obrog-obrog, that usually played during Ramadhan fasting season to wake up everyone at early dawn for Sahoor meal before going to fasting the whole day. Usually Obrog-obrog is played mobile with bicycle or cart and installed speaker or megaphone on it (that’s why Lair’s guitarist use megaphone for the amplifier and not normal guitar amp). This megaphone also used in their Mosques as a calling for prayers (Adzan). Obrog-obrog is a street music festivities, not on stage in order to merge together performers with audiences, equally.
