Nothing takes you back to your childhood more as a koala carer than when a koala falls asleep in your arms after their bottle.  It takes you back to when you used to cuddle your Teddy.  Maybe that's why koalas are so special to so many people.  Interestingly, sometimes koalas sleep with their eyes open - well sort of. They have a third eyelid (called a nictitating membrane) which is translucent and enables the eye to be protected and moistened while maintaining vision. Particularly useful when there's so many sticks around that might poke you in the eye. Benny often sleeps with his eyes open.  However his snoring gives away that he's in the land of dreams .....
