The Evil Dead Deadites: Origins and How to Kill Them

The demonic deadites are a parasitic kind of evil spirits that inhabit the bodies of living things and feed on their souls. The Evil Dead (1981) was the first film to include Deadites, but it wasn't until Evil Dead II that they were given names. One account states that the first inhabitants of what is now known as the Deadites were corrupted human souls from the depths of Hell. The creature was about to channel these damned souls and let them loose on the living world when the Kandarian Demon found it. A second account cast doubt on their origins, suggesting that The Dark Ones were behind their creation of "The Faceless Man" and the other afflicted humans. Regardless of their actual history, the Deadites were employed as foot troops to subdue mankind during the time when The Dark Ones controlled the planet. Along with the expulsion of the Dark Ones from our realm, the Deadites were confined to the prison realm of the Mirror Dimension. After being imprisoned, the Deadites' appearances on Earth vary among universes, but the majority seem to take place in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
