Alstom X’Trapolis 100 factory original low tone horn pre-Kockum Sonics replacement era. Matexon Sonabel 370hz model. Spun brass bell, die cast aluminium power chamber, brass nozzle, with single phosphor bronze diaphragm. Very loud and extremely air efficient. If you grew up in Melbourne you would remember this sound very clearly. These horns caused controversy with how loud and ear piercing they were. From 2023, these original 370hz horns were gradually replaced by a Kockum Sonics MKT 75 370hz variant fitted with an air choke that reduced the output to comply with ‘town’ warning regulation. This one was obtained from eBay and came from Tasmania of all places. I then stripped the paint and gave it a full cosmetic restoration for the freshly overhauled appearance.
