Step inside a Sri Lankan-inspired home with a surprising skylight and orchidarium

When designing his home for his family, architect Miko delos Reyes looked to his favorite architect for inspiration: the late Geoffrey Bawa of Sri Lanka. Delos Reyes adopted Bawa's stripped down approach on materiality throughout the home with concrete and wood as the main materials with close attention to natural light and ventilation. For delos Reyes' family home, he involved himself in the interiors and landscaping to create a coherent and truly personal space. By filling his home with furniture (heirloom pieces from his grandmother and other pieces designed using scraps from construction), and items from travels, he creates a lived-in space with a soul. He likes to refer to his design as a Modern Day Heritage Home which means a home that is relevant for his family's needs now and still can adapt to be relevant for the years to come.
