In 2019, the Brain Records crew including Bizzy B, DJ Dlux, TDK and Roy Balfourth (Formula 7) went back to the legendary club, The Dungeons, with a film crew. The Dungeons was club in the arches underneath Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, accessed via Lammas Road and via the Greyhound pub at 91 Lea Bridge Road. The first recorded rave nights were around 1987. It closed in 1994. It reopened at various points but remains closed today. Nights there included Hypnosis, Empathy: State of Mind, Base, RIP, Togetherness and many more. Brain Records was started in 1991 by Bizzy B from his home in Leyton. It quickly became one of the most progressive labels at a time when hardcore was first developing. From the start, the label showed an entrepreneurial flair and early releases included the first tracks by artists such as DJ Equinox, Peshay and TDK. Using OctaMED on a Commodore Amiga meant that Bizzy and the Brain Records crew developed a unique and highly influential sound. In this video Bizzy talks through how he made early tracks using this tracker software. Their nights at The Dungeons in the early 1990s grew a large following from beyond the borders of Waltham Forest, and were often collaborations with other labels and promoters such as Jericho, Solid Groove and Armshouse Crew Records. Directed and edited by Lewis Brooker, with Holly McGratten and Jack Savidge.
