The Soyuz spacecraft carrying two Russians and an American from Nasa finally made it to the International Space Station -- two days later than originally planned. Russia's Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev, and Nasa's Steve Swanson are preparing to take over from the crew currently residing at the International Space Station until May. Despite flared tensions between Russia and the US over Crimea, the astronauts have decided not to let the diplomatic crisis, which have seen the US impose sanctions on Russian officials, extend as far as space. Skvortsov and Swanson said at a pre-flight news conference that they had decided to have dinners together on board the ISS "as an opportunity to come together as friends in the kitchen and look each other in the eye". "I think we will all be able to live peacefully together," Skvortsov said. All three astronauts were welcomed on board with hugs, while back at mission control in Russia, Steve Swanson's mother was on the line -- much to the amusement of the crew. "We just want to tell you we're happy you're there now, finally, and have a good time," she said.
