【传法空海】 Pass on Tantra to Konghai 惠果法师在会昌法难前 Master Hui Guo had foreseen that there would be a big disaster for Buddhism 已经预知到佛教将有一场大的劫难要降临 before the Great Anti-Buddhist Persecution. 他知道自己在这个世界上的日子已经不多了 He also knew that he was going to pass away very soon. 而传人还没有找着 But he hasn’t found the one who can inherit Tantra yet, 不由得忧心如焚 so Master Hui Guo was utterly nervous with it. 在公元805年的一天 One day in 805 A.D., 青龙寺里面来一个叫做空海的日本和尚 a Japanese monk Konghai came to Qinglong Temple. 惠果一见 就认定他 He was identified as the disciple who was looking forward by Hui Guo 就是自己一直在翘首以盼的弟子 as soon as he saw Konghai. 十分高兴地讲 我等了你很久了 It’s glad to say that it’s been a long time to wait for you. 你来长安这么长时间 You’ve been Chang’an for a long time. 为什么到今天才来找我 Why do’t you come to me until today? 空海就恭恭敬敬地回答说 Konghai answered politely that 半年前 我已经到了您的门前 I have come to you six months ago. 可是您的门槛太高了 But it’s hard for me to get through the gate. 只看到师尊您老人家高高在上 As a nameless priestling, 我只是一个小和尚 I can only see you being high above. 我不敢冒冒失失地进来拜见您啊 So I dare not to bother you rashly. 惠果连连摇头 Hui Guo shook his head again and again. 不是这样子的 不是这样子的 No, it’s not like that. 你是未来密法的大成就者 You are the one who will achieve Tantra in the future. 我剩下的日子已经不多了 I don’t have many days left, 是在靠着毅力在延长寿命 the reason why I’m still alive is due to my strong will. 我要在最短的时间里面 I’m going to teach you all the secrets of Tantra 把密宗的精华传给你 in the shortest time. 你学好了以后 我替你灌顶 After that, I’ll give abhiseca to you 你要马上离开长安 and you need to leave Chang’an as soon as possible. 空海惊诧地问 Konghai asked in surprise, 师父您为什么这么着急呢 Master, why are you in a hurry like that? 惠果说 唉 大难将至 Hui Guo sighs, a big disaster is about to come, 密法将会在中国失传 and Tantra will be lost in China. 你得到密法后 要赶快地回到日本 So you need to return to Japan when you get Tantra. 如果你不赶快地带走密法 If you don’t do that, 密法就会在这个世上彻底地断绝了 Tantra must be lost forever. 空海听了这付话感动得是无以名状 After hearing that, Konghai was too moved to say a word, 当下就拜惠果为师 so he learned from Hui Guo instantly. 同时他感到自己身上的担子沉甸甸的 At the same time, he felt the burden of it. 惠果对空海毫无保留地倾囊相授 Hui Guo taught Konghai without reservation, 空海进步神速 and Konghai made fast progress. 在接下来的短短的三个月里面 In the following three months, 空海完成了别人一辈子也学不到的课程 Konghai finished all lessons others could never learn in their whole lives. 惠果悉数将两部大法传授完毕 After the teaching completed, 嘱付空海说 Hui Guo exhorted Konghai that, 早归乡国 以奉国家 流布天下 增苍生福 则四海泰 万人乐 是则报佛恩师德 忠于国孝于家也 义明供奉 此处而传 汝其行矣 传之东国 努力努力（《御清来目录》卷一) Return to Japan soon to serve the country, and then Tantra can spread around the world and benefit the common people, so the whole world will full of happiness and people will also be happy. That is repaying the teacher and serving the country. Tantra is enshrined and worshipped. You have the obligation and responsibility to pass on it to Japan, please make efforts. (Yu Qing Lai Mu Lu Volume 1) 这段话里面表明了惠果大师希望空海能够把唐密保留下来 These words have shown that Master Hui Guo hoped Konghai to keep Tantra, 并且在后世因缘成熟的时候 and bring it back to China 将它回传到华夏的愿望 when the time comes in the future. 这是惠果祖师的预言与期待 This is what Hui Guo predicts and expects. 空海得到了惠果的传授 Konghai has gained all from Hui Guo, 成为唐密的第八代传人 and became the eighth successor of Tang Tantra. 果然 空海仅仅跟着惠果学了几个月 As expected, Master Hui Guo passed away in that year(805), 惠果大师就于当年（805年）圆寂了 a few months after teaching Konghai. 空海回到日本后 Konghai then went back to Japan, 中国历史上发生了会昌法难（845年） and Great Anti-Buddhist Persecution（845） broke out in China. 唐武宗给了佛教毁灭性的打击 Tang Wuzong gave Buddhism a devastating blow. 幸好空海把密宗的重要经典器物带到了日本 Fortunately, Konghai has brought vital apparatus of Tantra to Japan， 保存了下来 and kept them well. 否则唐密很可能就会在会昌法难中走到了尽头 Otherwise, Tang Tantra would come to the end after the Great Anti-Buddhist Persecution. 空海回国后 带走了佛教经论200余部 Konghai took more than 200 Buddhist scriptures 和大量的中国文化典籍 and a large number of Chinese literary classics back to Japan. 在日本皇室的支持下 He set up Japanese Shingon Buddhism in Tōdai-ji, known as Shingon, 在东大寺建立了日本的真言宗 世称东密 and established Bodhimanda in Mount Koya 又在高野山创立了专门的道场 with the support of Japanese Royalty. 广泛传播密宗的教义 He spread the doctrines of Tantra widely, 成为日本真言宗的开山祖师 and became the founder of Japanese Shingon Buddhism. 被尊称为弘法大师 He is honored as Master Hongfa.
