Asparagus is a perennial vegetable. It will come back for decades once established. It needs to be fertilized about a month before spring or before your soil temperatures regularly hits 50 degrees. You want to feed it before the spears start coming out. I recommend about 2 tablespoons of 10-10-10 fertilizer per square foot each spring. Or something close to that.
