Many amateurs suffer from "extension" (cupping) in the lead wrist at impact, which adds loft and causes the club to scoop under the ball. To hit those compressed, piercing iron shots, you need lead wrist flexion and shaft lean. In this video, Brian Jacobs—a Golf Digest Best in State instructor and Master of Education—shares a high-repetition wall drill using the pathpal Golf and the TrueStrike block to transform your impact position. The "Wall Push" Impact Secret Brian combines plane awareness with physical impact pressure to change your motor patterns: The Setup: Place the pathpal unit behind you with the rod set at 60 degrees (perfect for an 8-iron). Position yourself close to a wall and place the TrueStrike block against the wall at your impact zone. The Plane Move: Take the club back slowly, ensuring it stays on plane relative to the pathpal rod. The Impact Move: Bring the club down to impact and push the clubface into the TrueStrike block against the wall. The Key Feeling: As you push, focus on squaring the face and feeling the lead wrist move into flexion (bowing). This naturally creates the shaft lean needed to de-loft the club and compress the ball. The Prescription: Brian recommends performing this drill 3–4 times a week, doing 3 sets of 10–12 repetitions. Because this drill is done slowly and without hitting a ball, it is the safest and most effective way to "re-wire" your brain for a better impact position during the off-season or at home. ---------------------------- 🏆 Brian Jacobs’ Credentials: Two-time Western New York PGA Teacher of the Year (2017, 2021).
