Museums at Night at Hertford Museum 14th May 2016

Artist Sarah Evans' beautiful animation Arecibo B with live improvised soundtrack from The McKenzie Break. Arecibo B takes its title from The Arecibo message which was broadcast into space a single time via frequency modulated radio waves at the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico on 16 November 1974. The narrative of the performance is call and response and the musicians are asked to observe the motion of the animation and respond both to the moving images as well as each other. The performance intends to place attention on the close observation of the musicians as they find the synergies between instruments and image.
