"Show Me The Way" was originally released on his 1975 album, Frampton, and although it was also released as a single, it didn't become popular until it was released on this live album a year later. This record was Frampton's fourth and nothing he had done before prepared anyone to suspect the massive popular and critical success this effort would bring. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 the week ending April 10, 1976, and was in the top spot for a total of 10 weeks. It was the best-selling album of 1976, selling over 6 million copies in the US and became one of the best-selling live albums to date. Frampton Comes Alive! was voted "Album of the Year" in the 1976 Rolling Stone readers poll. It stayed on the chart for 97 weeks and was still #14 on Billboard's 1977 year-end album chart. The most recognizable songs from the album are "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", and "Do You Feel Like We Do", all of which were released as singles, and continue to receive much airplay on classic rock radio stations. The album was recorded in summer and fall 1975, primarily at Winterland in San Francisco, California and the Long Island Arena in Commack, New York. The Winterland recordings were recorded on a 24 track master recorder. Other concerts were recorded on a 16 track recorder. Recordings from four different shows were used for the original album. Master tapes were recorded at 15 inches per second using professional Dolby "A" noise reduction. The live album was originally intended as a single LP disc, but at the suggestion of A&M Records additional shows were recorded and the album expanded to two LPs for release. The double album was released in the US with a special reduced list price of $7.98, only $1.00 more than the standard $6.98 of most single-disc albums in 1976. This record was released on my 15th birthday and what a great present it was at that time! I was just starting high school and those times are forever linked with this music.....everywhere you went either the LP was spinning, the 8track was rolling or the radio was blasting. This song, "Do You Feel Like We Do" and "Baby, I Love Your Way" will always hold a special place in my heart and it's a testament to their greatness that they are still (almost) as popular today as they were going on 40 years ago...if you listen to a pop or rock radio station for very long you are surely likely to hear the familiar strains of one of those 3 songs finding your ears! I had been working on some other longer, more difficult videos and trying to achieve certain effects with some of the elements and realized that I might be able to quickly incorporate some of what I was doing into another video I'd had planned for quite some time but hadn't really done anything with. My concept for "Show Me The Way" was originally to incorporate a video clip of a flock of birds flying in formation through the Frampton Comes Alive! album art...and even though I actually know exactly the footage I hoped to use, I decided that, although the effect might have been cool, it really wasn't necessary with all the movement from the butterflies and kaleidoscope effects and that a still image or two would work better.
