Trauma bonds are one of the most misunderstood concepts in healing and relationship conversations — and often one of the most painful to confront. In this episode, I’m joined by my friend and colleague Staci Somes, and together we slow this conversation way down. Rather than framing trauma bonds as weakness, addiction, or a failure to “just leave,” we explore what trauma bonds really are: a nervous system survival response to attachment under threat. We talk about how trauma bonds form, why they can feel so powerful and confusing, and why insight alone is rarely enough to break them. We also explore the difference between trauma bonding and authentic love — helping you distinguish intensity from safety, survival from choice. If you’ve ever found yourself asking, “Why is this so hard to let go of?” or “Why do I still feel attached even after everything that’s happened?” — this episode is for you.
