420 In Winnipeg, 2016 (Full Report)

Every year, people around the globe get together on April, 20th for the 420 celebrations and protests. For the 4th year in a row, Josh Sigurdson was lucky enough to report on what went down at the Manitoba Legislative Building. While the previous year was rainy and cold, 2016 was a phenomenal year with great weather, a few thousand people and an impressive number of street vendors. Hosting as always was Steven Stairs and Kristen Aldrich who put an abundant amount of work into getting the event running as they do every year, alongside the organizing committee. We talked with Steven Stairs about legalization in 2016 and promises made by Trudeau as he used the issue to demagogue and now must be held to the flame when it comes to the issue of cannabis rights. Instead of just sitting around the entire time, Steven and Kristen organize a massive march in the streets, from the Legislative Building to Portage, all the way to the Human Rights Museum and back down Broadway to the Legislative Building. After Steven and Kristen called the raffle numbers for the excellent line of prizes they had set up for the event, the countdown to 4:20pm commenced followed by a large cloud of smoke! We also watched an excellent speech by Mike Mailman who always has an inspiring and honest message. All together, 420, 2016 was one of the best years yet in the city of Winnipeg and everything continues to look up from here!
