Dr. S. Raghunath, Professor of Corporate Strategy and Policy, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, interviews Mr. Bob Sanders, SVP, Data Capture Solutions, Motorola Solutions and Mr. Girish Rishi, SVP, Enterprise Solutions, Motorola Solutions on their strategy for India and other emerging markets "We are optimistic that India will see the need to enhance broadband capability and make it ubiquitous to serve public safety needs better," say Mr. Girish Rishi, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Solutions, Motorola, and Mr. Bob Sanders, Senior Vice President, Data Capture Solutions, Motorola in conversation with Dr. S. Raghunath, Professor of Corporate Strategy and Policy, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore on November 21, 2013. The interview is an opportunity to understand how Motorola Solutions, a company with an 85-year-old history of innovation, has expanded and grown in India and in other emerging markets. On the subject of using technology to make supply chains efficient in India, with specific regard to organized retail in perishables and the wastage incurred due to supply chain blips, Mr. Bob Sanders says: "The problem is not specific to India. Around the world, where we do business, we see wastage and spoilage of perishables leading to loss of billions of dollars across industry. It can lead to sickness, and in extreme cases, it can lead to death if produce or meats are spoilt at the time of sale. We do offer solutions in conjunction with partners. We have software systems that track time from field to market; we can track temperature profile; we can determine when it reaches the backdoor of the store is it still good for sale and for human consumption." Quote: "Technology has answers and can solve problems. Developed countries have invested in logistics and infrastructure; technology assists them. It is high time countries step up and drive the investment in logistics and infrastructure development so that more people get perishable goods in the condition that they ensure good health."
