The golden eagle - Aquila chrysaetos chrysaetos. The most widely distributed species of eagle, they're found throughout the northern hemisphere. Their average wingspan is 1.8 - 2.3m and they can reach speeds of 150 miles per hour when diving for prey. Hares, marmots, squirrels and arctic foxes are the golden eagle's prey of choice.
