The Secret Formula for the First Derivative! | Rigorous Calculus Proof!

The first derivative is defined using the limit definition of the derivative. In this video, we give an alternative definition of the first derivative (when it exists) of a function f(x) at a point x = a, which does not require knowing the value of f(a) [which is very interesting]. We also discuss what this alternative definition looks like in the case of a non-differentiable function - the absolute value function |x| - at the point x = 0 (where |x| is not differentiable). The formula is a fun calculus fact (in the theory of differentiation) and the video is designed for everyone studying calculus familiar with the limit definition of the derivative of a function (e.g., AP Calculus in the USA).
