I colorized, restored, and created sound design for This rare 1946 captures postwar Germany through striking scenes from Munich, Nuremberg, and Würzburg — cities torn by war but slowly coming back to life. In Munich, the camera moves through streets filled with rubble, empty buildings, and an almost eerie silence, where a few civilians walk among the ruins. At the train station, a mother and daughter wait on the platform while trains pass through damaged depots, and views from the window reveal a quiet countryside beginning to heal. Further scenes show men with carts, trolleys filled with passengers, and children playing — small moments of normal life returning. In Würzburg, the city feels alive again: crowds gather around the Lower Market Square, the statue of Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn stands over a bustling scene, and women sell flowers near St. Mary’s Chapel as new posters appear beside crumbling walls. Finally, the film closes in a cemetery where families visit graves covered with flowers — a tender reflection of loss, remembrance, and resilience as Germany rebuilds from the ashes.
