A man identified as Eduardo Manggol, a 43-year-old house painter and carpenter died while he was allegedly attempting to hook up an illegal power connection or "jumper" up an electric post near his house in Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Manila at around eight o'clock in the morning on Tuesday. His neighbors suspected that he got in contact with a live wire while hooking up a jumper to make an illegal power connection and got electrocuted in the process. No one among his neighbors dared to bring down his slumped body from the electric post for fear they might get electrocuted, too. After a little more than an hour, men from Meralco (Manila Electric Company) arrived to bring down the body of Manggol using an electric ladder lift. They noted that the victim did not have burn marks on his body. Manggol might have had a heart attack, his family theorized. When asked to explain the reason why Manggol had climbed up the electric post, his sister Evelyn Anggor said somebody paid him P200 to connect a 'jumper.' "Hindi naman aakyat 'yan d'yan kung walang nag-utos sa kanya. Karpintero kasi s'ya tsaka pintor, eh" Anggor said. Manggol's six-month pregnant wife, however, refused to comment. Meralco personnel reminded the public that it is dangerous and illegal to climb electric posts. Watch video report here: • Man electrocuted while connecting 'jumper'
