Study of China in Britain - Prof. T. H. Barrett

This is a follow-up interview with Prof. T. H. Barrett (SOAS), recorded in the library of the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge. The goal of this conversation was to revisit some of the topics we talked about during our earlier interviews. Thus Prof. Barrett clarifies some of the things he feels he was not entirely accurate about and adds quite a few interesting comments about the way China is taught in Britain and what is lacking in this respect. He suggests that he would like to study in the future the interactions between the two countries. He also explains what pushed him, as a young boy, to study East Asia and in particular China. Finally, as in the previous interviews, he tells a series of interesting anecdotes about teaching Chinese topics in the UK and the US.
