Singaraja Bali Snippets: Singaraja Bali Today!

Singaraja Bali Snippets: Singaraja Bali Today! These are short 15 minutes or less videos on the city of Singaraja, Bali. They are walking tours for the most part, although occasionally I will be filming on my motorcycle I'm back with another Singaraja Bali Snippets video. After wandering around Sanur last week, I realized that what I found most interesting were not the hotels and restaurants but the backstreets where people lived. The idea for these videos of Singaraja was to document the city as it exists today, as a geographical/cultural location in a specific time and space. Why? Because that's what interests me as an anthropologist. And, it is what I think my children and grandchildren will be interested in years in the future when the city has changed and when the residents of that period are no longer around. So today, I head out east of Kampung Bugis, through the former harbor, over to the underutilized Singaraja Square and on towards what I thought would be an open street market. I was surprised to find something else, however. This video is Part 1 of that walk through town. The second part takes us into the market and a few side streets adjacent to the market. On a technical note, I was experiment with several mics to see which one would be best at reducing traffic noise. It turned out that the in-camera mic with a dead cat was slightly more effective to my surprise. I also discovered that recording with a mask on and then using noise reduction technology made my voice sound like Darth Vaders – enough to frighten small children and an assorted of pets. I'm still waiting for the DJI wireless mic to reach Indonesia. But that may take some time. Nothing like playing with technology to keep one active in retirement.
