If ancient history & the history of magic tells us anything, it’s that the Secrets of Ancient Egypt were so profuse that the Ancient Egyptians had to build large monuments to contain them all. So, to discover the Secrets of Ancient Egypt, we must search all the hiding places of the Ancient Egyptians: their pyramids, their halls, their tombs, but especially their temples. For it is within the temples where the Secrets of Ancient Egypt, the Magic of Ancient Egypt were assembled, recorded & cached. According to the Book of the Dead & the Coffin Texts, ancient Egyptian priests & scribes of the temples of Ancient Egypt spent most of their time fashioning secrets - the secrets of magic, the mysteries of magick, in particular. Heka magic (the Ancient Egyptian word for magic named for the ancient Egyptian god of magic) was the lifeblood, the fuel of Ancient Egyptian civilization. Magic in Ancient Egypt (Heka) was the supreme secret of all secrets of ancient Egypt – a secret that was guarded tightly by the priests (the magicians). Thus, accessing the secrets of Ancient Egypt & the magic of Ancient Egypt required initiation into the priesthood - a grueling process. Since serving as a priest offered the greatest number of perks compared with any other profession in Ancient Egypt (not counting the job of pharaoh), the whole game was cut-throat competitive. (Aside from becoming a wielder of the power of magick, the prime perks included actually having a shot at literacy & getting all of your meals on the house sans the manual labor.) Sure, as a temple priest in Ancient Egypt you had to be a personal assistant to some very exacting & bratty gods & goddesses, but all of that was certainly worth trading for gaining access to the power to control demons, cast & break curses, heal the sick & foresee the destiny of the kingdom & everyone in it. In this ASMR history roleplay (inspired by Lloyd’s ASMR style), you are being inducted into the priesthood of the Temple of Ptah in Memphis in the city’s heyday. You have been a temple grunt for many years, feeding, dressing, attending to Ptah & his consort Sekhmet, sweeping up the joint, taking out the trash & studying the sacred scrolls like the Book of the Dead in your downtime. During that time, the high priest & the High Priestess caught a glimpse of a special something in you & consulted the stars, Ptah & Sekhmet as to your destiny. Turns out, there’s nothing but secret assembly & magic making on the cards for you (yay! No pyramid building for you!) With just the sufficient amount of ado, tonight, the high priestess performs your induction rite, making you a full-fledged, card-carrying member of Club Heka Magic. Congrats! Notes: The pizza cutter-looking thing used to shave your head, face & body is what (according to Egyptologists) an ancient Egyptian razor looked like. (If you don’t believe me, have a google for yourself ;) The ancient Egyptians prolly didn’t invent shaving, but they took it seriously enough to make it into an art after the invention of copper tools (c. 3000 BC). (Most likely to appease the gods/goddesses who found body hair to be repulsive, so it was a religious duty to remove it.) The ancient Egyptians were very persnickety about bodily purity & may have been the first to convert the loofah plant into a sponge for rub-a-dub-dub body scrubbing.
