A right bone is used. 1) Superior surface of body -- Kager's fat pad, Posterior, Middle, and Anterior Talar Facets, Calcaneus Sulcus and Sinus Tarsi of the calcaneus 2) Inferior surface -- calcaneal tuberosity that is divided into a medial and lateral process, transverse groove 3) Medial surface -- sustentaculum tali, groove below is for tendon of flexor halluces longus, middle talar facet located superiorly 4) Lateral surface -- retrotrochlear eminence, peroneal tubercle, peroneal spine (calcaneofibular lig.) 5) Anterior Surface -- saddle shape 6) Posterior surface -- divided into 3 parts. Upper one-third is smooth and contains bursa. Middle one-third is rough and serves as attachment for Achilles and plantaris tendons. Lower one-third is rough. 7) Primary Center of Ossification -- 5th to 6th month of fetal development
