Here's how to make a spear from an $8 dollar knife. I got the knife from Harbor Freight and had some fun testing it out and reviewing it for another video. Definitely not my style of knife so I decided to make something different out of it. After a short deliberation I decided on making a spear. About the same time my son was working in the garden and discovered our garden hoe and a cracked handle. Perfect! Now I had a halfway decent hardwood handle for my spear. The time was right. I used several tools for this including a scroll saw, a metal file, belt sander, drill, angle grinder, propane torch and a few other things. In the end it took me a couple of hours and I had a pretty decent spear, but if I had it to do over again I'd probably try to give it more strength at the joint where the shaft and the blade come together. I used bolts instead of pins and epoxy so I could take it apart and repair if necessary. Realistically though, this spear is just for show, it's not even really sharp and has only a false edge on the back side. So durability is not the most important consideration.
