The Chapel of Mary Magdalene in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre belongs to the Franciscans, who we see in this video praying in the chapel. It is dedicated to the moment when Mary Magdalene encountered Jesus after His resurrection. In front of the altar, we see two circles on the floor. These mark the position of Mary Magdalene when Jesus appeared to her after His resurrection. Mary Magdalene was one of the few who were present at the crucifixion of Jesus and witnessed His suffering. She was also one of the first witnesses of His resurrection, and in the Gospels, she is described as the one who saw the risen Jesus (John 20:11-18). Traditionally, Jesus appeared to her here first and gave her the mission to announce His resurrection to the disciples. Mary Magdalene was an exceptionally brave woman who, despite the danger, went to the tomb – it was risky for Jesus' disciples to go there. Nevertheless, she decided to go before sunrise, which emphasizes her courage and faith. She was the first to tell the disciples that Jesus had risen. At this holy place, which has carried so much faith and hope throughout history, it is a deeply moving moment for a believer to stand here. The thought of being at the place where Jesus revealed Himself to Mary Magdalene after His resurrection touches the heart. It is a moment of quiet devotion, gratitude, and awe at the wonder of the resurrection. One feels connected through the centuries, not only with Mary Magdalene but also with all the believers who have revered this place in faith. It is a reminder that the victory of life over death remains a living testimony of faith today.
