Reasons NOT to join the MM Here we are again for the most forgotten faction in Fallout 4. Sure the minutemen might be the most forgettable faction in fallout 4, but most people barely realize just how incoherent these guys are, bso without further ado, here’s 9 reasons you should not join the minutemen. They aren’t even minutemen As preston is so fond of telling us, the Minutemen as they exist in the game are modeled- at least loosely ont he minutemen of 1774-1775. Now, allow me to clarify something. The original minutemen were a militia. They were the elite militia members, expected to be faster, better and more prepared than the rest of the militia, but they were still a militia. They would farm or barber or taylor or smith during their regular life, but be ready to respond to a threat at a minute’s notice. By contrast, an army is a group whose full time job is to be a soldier. They are paid to be soldiers before anything else. The minutemen were not an army. But you know who is an army? The minutemen- in fallout 4. The number of minutemen you have as settlers are a grand total of 6, plus Ronnie Shaww who does whatever she wants and preston who makes you do whatever he wants. The rest of the minutemen can be found out on patrol or responding to flares. Now think for a minute. The point of the minutemen was to have an elite fighting force without having to pay for the food and upkeep of a standing army. Fallout 4 frames the minutemen in the same way, only that’s not what they do is it? They aren’t working a regular job, then dropping what theyre doing to defend their fellow settlers, instead, They exist to take the food and water off the top of your settlements and in return they will respond to flares, not attacks, only flares and occasionally will run a patrol or two. In other words, these minutemen you see in game are no more noble than a BoS member or really any other kind of military member. They arent doing this for the good of the commonwealth, they wanted a job that would feed them and this was the one that was hiring. Call a spade a spade. Their entire plan is killing more people by the day. In addition to just being a military group looking for work, they also are making things worse for the people of the commonwealth. We emerge onto a commonwealth that has just recently been fully taken over by teh Institute. The minutemen were destroyed by the gunners, paid for by a mysterious benefactor, the RR had their base destroyed and any other attempts to civilize are met by supermutant outbreaks or synth takeovers. All over, we see signs of settlements that were running well up until recently only now, they only manage to be sparsely inhabited by people saying they cant trust anyone since the minutemen were wiped out. And the solution to that? Set up radios all over the commonwealth calling anyone with a pulse to gather up in cardboard boxes, tinfoil palaces and plank shanties so that occasionally, a group of 5 minutemen or if youre lucky, the general himself, will show up to save whatever's left of your home and family after a bunch of mirelurks or supermutants or whatever nightmare of the week has picked over your town. A MONSTER CAME OUT MORE STOMACH THAN MAN THe minutemen are not built for success. They’re built to give the player an eternal chore to attend to by endangering settlers, It is that simple.
