Super Eurobeat is the world’s longest-running CD music collection, first launched in 1991. Produced in Italy and distributed in Japan, this series became the definitive soundtrack of ParaPara dance culture and Eurobeat fandom worldwide. With over 240 volumes released, it stands as a monumental achievement in music history. Personally, Eurobeat has always been one of my favorite genres—perfect for long drives and intense gym sessions. The high-energy beats, catchy melodies, and nostalgic sound make it timeless. Recording date: 2014-12-14 Location: Pozzolengo, Italy For years, I dreamed of visiting the Italian recording studios where so many of these legendary tracks were created. That dream finally came true when I had the opportunity to visit SCP Music (Ritmo & Blu Studios) and meet some of the most iconic names in the Eurobeat scene: Ace, Domino, and Stefano Castagna. These artists and producers have shaped the sound of Eurobeat for decades, and meeting them in person was nothing short of surreal. Eurobeat itself evolved from Italo Disco, which was hugely popular in Italy during the 1980s. As the genre modernized and transformed in the early 1990s, it became known as Eurobeat and found an enthusiastic and devoted audience in Japan. Unlike most Western dance genres, Eurobeat grew into a cultural movement, tied closely to ParaPara dancing—a synchronized dance style where each track has its own choreography. If you’ve never seen ParaPara in action, here’s a great video introduction: How to dance to Eurobeat. The trip itself was unforgettable. I took a one-hour train ride from Milan Central Station through the rolling landscapes of the Lombardy countryside. The views alone were worth the journey, but the excitement built as I approached Peschiera del Garda, where the SCP crew kindly met me at the train station. That kind of warm welcome is something I’ll never forget. After some introductions, Ace, Stefano, and Domino even signed my Super Eurobeat CDs, making them some of my most prized collectibles. We then went out for lunch at a beautiful local Italian restaurant where I tried something I never expected—pasta with donkey meat. It was a surprising choice, but part of what made the day so authentic and memorable. Back at the studio, Stefano invited me to sit by his mixing board where I got to preview a few unreleased Eurobeat tracks. Hearing raw, unfinished music before it ever reached Japan was like peeking behind the curtain of music history. It was a rare privilege and gave me a new appreciation for the production process. Unfortunately, my time was short, and I had to return to Milan to catch my flight home, but the entire experience left a deep impression on me. Sadly, due to new policy changes by Avex Music, the Super Eurobeat CD series is no longer sold outside of Japan. However, Eurobeat is not lost—you can still enjoy the Eurokudos Collection on streaming platforms like Google Music, ensuring the legacy of the genre lives on for fans across the globe.
