This video was inspired by my recent video that blew up, attracting hundreds of views and a flood of negative and off-topic comments: • Debating of Trans People in Sports is Stup... I examine the analytics showing the video sources, and show that the largest portion of the traffic came from the "Up Next" feature, a passive feature that pushes people to watch videos on auto-play. A large portion of these users did not like the video, and many of them responded by leaving negative comments. I empathize with these users, but I point out that the problem isn't me or my video but rather, the fact that so many people are in a mentally-checked out state where they are watching videos on autoplay, kind of putting their brain on autopilot. I explain that this mental state is not healthy and tends to lead towards mental illness, and also that it gives corporations that own and control social media more power and influence over our lives. With my channel, I do my best to cultivate and promote a more mindful state in which people seek out content intentionally. I also talk about the flood of off-topic comments where people who show no evidence of even having watched the video, steer the discussion in the comments section in a different direction from what I was trying to achieve in my video, and how the large number of these comments and these users liking each others' comments buries the smaller number of people who actually watched the video and left thoughtful comments. I talk about how I am aggressive about banning users who leave such off-topic comments and how I will not give these users a second chance: once banned, these people permanently lose their chance to have me or others see their comment. I lastly talk about how I encourage and greatly appreciate people expressing disagreement and challenging my ideas. However, people need to actually watch my video and disagree with what I actually said, not just comment on what they think the video might be based on the title. I refuse to let people who don't actually watch my videos or engage with the ideas in them dictate the direction of the comment sections on my videos.
