Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Zhuang: Gvangjsih Bouxcuengh Swcigih), commonly known as Guangxi (Zhuang: Guengjsae), is one of the five autonomous regions of the People's Republic of China, with Nanning as its capital. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is located in the south-central region, bordering the Gulf of Tonkin in the south and Vietnam. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has the largest minority population in China, and Mandarin is widely used. The local languages include Zhuang, Dong, Cantonese sub-dialect, Guiliu Mandarin and other national languages and dialects. Because the Tong Zu à ng nationality [Note 1] is the most populous ethnic minority in Guangxi (31%), the Guangxi Tong Autonomous Region was established in 1958 by Guangxi Province according to the system of regional ethnic autonomy. In 1965, the name of the Tong nationality was changed to Zhuang nationality, and the autonomous region was also changed to its current name.
