"Golden Lady" is one of the loveliest songs I ever heard. The soulful and jazzy music track makes me think of a sunny summer day filled with romance and hope. That is his greatest gift, Stevie Wonder can instill his sentiments into me via his music. I always turned up the radio with this came on, it so reminds me of barbeques, block parties, bell bottoms, Good Humor Ice Cream Trucks, swimming pools at the neighbor's places, love and hope were everywhere. It was 1973 and by this date back then, Nixon began his second term, The Sears Tower and Skylab were both reaching the stars and open for business. Vietnam was coming to an end, Elvis Hawaii Concert was the most watched program on TV. Roe VS Wade overturned state bans on abortions and the introduction of the metric system baffled the populace. Gas prices skyrocketed and the LGBTQ movement got a boost when the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality as a mental disorder. People where chilling out and Chuck Berry said it best in his #1 pop hit "My Ding A Ling", "this is a free country, live like you wanna live, ain't nobody gonna knock it, mmm mmm, freedom". "Golden Lady" remained an album track but I remember hearing it quite a bit during the summer of 1973. That was one thing about radio then, the DJ's worked with Program Directors to establish playlists and often had the opportunity to break a new song, like the B side of the intended single or an album track. Those were the days my friend.
